PayPal or Foreign Card for Flowers to Korea?

By Korea Flower ExpressPublished

Quick answer

Yes. On the English, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese order forms at Korea Flower Express, you can pay by international card, charged in Korean won, or by PayPal in US dollars at that day's exchange rate plus a 5% fee. The Korean-language order form has different options and no PayPal.

Key points

  • On the foreign-language order forms (English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese), the default is Overseas payment (KRW) by international card; PayPal is the second choice.
  • PayPal is charged in US dollars at that day's exchange rate plus a 5% fee, and the order form shows an approximate dollar amount before you order.
  • The Korean order form offers five methods (virtual account, credit card, manual card, KakaoPay, Naver Pay) and no PayPal.
  • A card charged in won is converted by your card company, which may add its own fees, so ask your card company if the exact amount matters.
  • If a payment fails after you get an order number, your order stays on file. Please don't order again; tell us in the chat.

Can I pay with PayPal or a foreign card when ordering flowers to Korea?

Yes. Korea Flower Express accepts both on its English, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese order forms. The option selected by default is Overseas payment (KRW): you pay with an international card and the charge is made in Korean won. The second option is PayPal, charged in US dollars at that day's exchange rate with a 5% fee included. The Korean-language order form is different. It is built around five Korean payment methods and has no PayPal.

If you are ordering from abroad, open the order form in your own language and the right payment choices appear automatically. The whole ordering process is laid out in How to Send Flowers to Korea From Abroad.

How does paying with a foreign card work?

At Korea Flower Express, the foreign-language order forms have Overseas payment (KRW) selected by default. You fill in the order, press the order button, and are taken to a payment page where you pay with your international card. The charge is made in Korean won, and the won total shown on the order form is what is charged.

Your card company then converts that won amount into your own currency. Whether it adds a foreign-transaction or currency-conversion fee, and how much, depends on the card company, so ask them if the exact figure matters to you.

How does PayPal work, and what is the 5% fee?

At Korea Flower Express, PayPal is the second payment option on the foreign-language order forms and is labelled PayPal (US dollars, incl. 5% fee). What you pay is your order total converted to US dollars at that day's exchange rate, plus 5%. For example, an order total of ₩100,000 is charged as the dollar equivalent of ₩105,000 at that day's rate. The form shows an approximate dollar amount as a preview, and the final amount is calculated when your order is placed.

The steps look like this. Korea Flower Express starts preparing the flowers once the PayPal payment is received.

  • Choose PayPal on the order form and place the order.
  • On the page that confirms your order was received, press the PayPal payment button.
  • Finish the payment on PayPal.
  • Once the payment is received, the flowers go into preparation.

How much will I pay in my own currency?

Prices at Korea Flower Express are listed in Korean won, so the amount in your own currency moves with the exchange rate every day. With a card, your card company sets the rate it applies. With PayPal, the dollar amount comes from that day's rate plus the 5% fee. Which one is cheaper depends on that day's rate and your card's terms, so neither can be recommended in general.

Should I choose a foreign card or PayPal?

On the foreign-language order forms at Korea Flower Express either one works, so there is no single right answer; pick whichever fits the payment method you already have and are comfortable with. The international card is selected from the start, is charged in won and carries no PayPal fee. PayPal suits people who already pay through it, and the order form shows the dollar amount, 5% fee included, before you order.

One thing worth remembering: if PayPal does not work, you can switch to a card with Pay by card instead on the order-received page (or in the confirmation email) without re-entering the order, so choosing PayPal first will not leave you stuck.

Which payment methods does the Korean order form offer?

The Korean-language order form at Korea Flower Express offers five payment methods: virtual account, credit card, manual card, KakaoPay and Naver Pay. PayPal is not available there. It is a good fit if a friend or relative in Korea is paying on your behalf.

  • Virtual account: you choose a bank on the form, and the account to pay into appears on screen right after you order. A cash receipt can be requested.
  • Credit card, KakaoPay and Naver Pay: after the order is received, you are taken to a payment page to pay.
  • Manual card: you do not enter card details on the form. The order is received and our team checks it and gets in touch. If paying by card yourself is difficult, you can call +82-70-7919-3038 for help.

What if my payment fails or PayPal does not work?

If something goes wrong with the payment after you get an order number, your order with Korea Flower Express is still on file and has not been cancelled. Please don't place it again. Use the chat button on the page and the team will help you finish the payment. Chat support is available from any country.

Card payments cannot be made between 12:00 and 12:10 AM Korea time every night. If you order in that window, the order is still received, so just pay again after 12:10 AM KST.

  • If PayPal does not work for you: press Pay by card instead on the order-received page (or in the confirmation email). Your order stays as it is and only the payment changes, to a card charged in won without the PayPal fee. If you have closed that window, you can also tell us in the chat and we will suggest another way.
  • If a card payment breaks off partway: press Try the payment again, or message us in the chat.

By when do I need to pay, and can I change an order after paying?

On the foreign-language forms at Korea Flower Express, the screen shown after a failed payment says that an order paid by international card (Overseas payment, KRW) that is not paid by midnight Korea time is cancelled automatically. With PayPal, production starts only after the payment is received, so if you chose PayPal, please finish the payment right away. Orders placed before 6 PM Korea time are mostly delivered the same day; see Same-Day Flower Delivery in Korea: Cutoff by Time Zone for the details.

Whether an order can be changed or cancelled depends on whether the flowers are already being made. Once production has started, a change or cancellation may not be possible or may cost extra, so if you want to change something, ask in the chat before you pay.

Where do I start the order?

Pick a gift from Flower Baskets or Bouquets, enter the recipient's details (see How to Write a Korean Address for Flower Delivery for how a Korean address is written), and choose a payment method in the payment section at the bottom of the form.
